Between the 28 of September and the 19 of October of 1781, during the American War of Independence, the Battle of Yorktown -also known as Siege of Yorktown – took place. It faced the american and their French allies against the British.
The British have retired to Yorktown, colony of Virginia, and George Washington moved to this place with his army of Americans and French, arriving on September 28. The French fleet blocked the port of Yorktown, preventing any British operation of reavituallamiento by sea, while French terrestrial troops and patriots surrounded the city. They took fortifications and bastions and 46 cannons bombed Yorktown. Finally, on October 19 the English surrender.
